Loved the way the first half was super dark and the second half was lighter in tone As always the art in this series is sheer excellence and the action scenes are so well drawnBig love

There’s some great action and artwork in this volume, however the story isn’t as strong as it has previously been。 It’s still a fantastic book, but it felt like a bridge between bigger and better stories。

This book details the end of the Golden Age Arc and the beginning of the Conviction Arc - focusing on the Lost Children。The ending of the Golden Age arc was heartbreaking and powerful and gorgeously and disgustingly drawn in vivid detail。 The manga continues to have a level of mystery and intrigue around it's major plot elements - such as the Godhand, their motivations and powers, the Inhumans and what exactly can they influence and control。 This book also brings up new mysteries about the Skull This book details the end of the Golden Age Arc and the beginning of the Conviction Arc - focusing on the Lost Children。The ending of the Golden Age arc was heartbreaking and powerful and gorgeously and disgustingly drawn in vivid detail。 The manga continues to have a level of mystery and intrigue around it's major plot elements - such as the Godhand, their motivations and powers, the Inhumans and what exactly can they influence and control。 This book also brings up new mysteries about the Skull Knight and Nosferatu Zodd - what are their backstories, why are they being helpful to Guts? And gives them both some depth in the form of their rivalry and their own code of behavior separate from the Godhand。This volume also satisfyingly brings back elements of the initial Black Swordsman arc - how Guts gets his armor, his sword, his throwing knives, and his arm cannon all have more significance and importance thanks to this context。 It also brings back the deformed fetus that was haunting Guts from the earliest chapters which - with full context - becomes even more horrifying and deeply depressing。The back half of this book starts up the Conviction Arc。 It must be said that the absence of the band of the Hawk is sorely missed。 I just really loved Casca, Judeau, Griffith, and all the others。 The teamwork and group dynamics were some of the highlights of the Golden Arc。 However reverting to that Black Swordsman formula has it's own pleasures as well。 The hunt down and destroy a new enemy is very satisfying reading and leads to a great rhythm between exploring new character's stories and the world at large (the Holy See is involved now!? Whoa cool!) with the incredible action and fight sequences against demons。 All the while keeping Guts' quest moving forward。I'm not sure how I feel about Puck and the abundance of gag style humor with him in this book。 It certainly feels like a big change with how grounded, complex, and mature the Golden Age Arc was - but at the same time I feel Puck is a useful spot of light in an otherwise very bleak story。 。。。more

More gothic gore and incredible art only possible with manga! this volume follows Guts as he battles to save his love Casca! The story then follows Guts and Puck as they take on demonic elves and demons。 you get to see Guts use his cannon arm too and find out how he got that enormous sword!

Blitzed this in half a day - very much into the depressing end of the anime and beyond now, so quite dark。 The art is so phenomenal, I just can’t get enough of it - but now a two month wait for the next volume。

As always Miura's art is top notch。 I'm going to need another book case for the volumes I have and future volumes。 At 3 issues per volume and a total of 40 issues。 There is alot more Berserk to go。 This volume begins with the eclipse's ending and moves to Guts dealing with what happened。 If you google berserk a lot of the images you find come from this volume。 As always Miura's art is top notch。 I'm going to need another book case for the volumes I have and future volumes。 At 3 issues per volume and a total of 40 issues。 There is alot more Berserk to go。 This volume begins with the eclipse's ending and moves to Guts dealing with what happened。 If you google berserk a lot of the images you find come from this volume。 。。。more

4。6/5The second half of the Eclipse and beyond are compelling stuff。 Miura's classic Berserk manga is stronger than ever fifteen volumes in。 The Conviction arc is disturbing horror in its own right, in a way that differs from the Lovecraftian terror of the Eclipse, which gives the whole ordeal some variety。 The pacing is brisk, the translation is good, and the artwork continues to be phenomenal。 Puck is a little annoying and kinda ruins the mood at times but as far as sidekicks whose purpose is 4。6/5The second half of the Eclipse and beyond are compelling stuff。 Miura's classic Berserk manga is stronger than ever fifteen volumes in。 The Conviction arc is disturbing horror in its own right, in a way that differs from the Lovecraftian terror of the Eclipse, which gives the whole ordeal some variety。 The pacing is brisk, the translation is good, and the artwork continues to be phenomenal。 Puck is a little annoying and kinda ruins the mood at times but as far as sidekicks whose purpose is to juxtapose the protagonist, we could do much worse。 I also enjoyed the prototype manga from 1988, a wonderful addition to this omnibus。 Looking forward to reading Vols 16-18 in the next Deluxe Edition! 。。。more

This collection brings the narrative full-circle, finally completing the telling of the events of Guts' past, and easing us back into the ultra-violent demon slaying that began the series so long ago。 Except now, we've got all the emotional weight behind just why Guts is going around slaying monsters, and not giving a damn about anybody。 And that makes all the difference。 Seeing Guts lose pretty much everything he held dear over the past several volumes really hammers home the toll it's all take This collection brings the narrative full-circle, finally completing the telling of the events of Guts' past, and easing us back into the ultra-violent demon slaying that began the series so long ago。 Except now, we've got all the emotional weight behind just why Guts is going around slaying monsters, and not giving a damn about anybody。 And that makes all the difference。 Seeing Guts lose pretty much everything he held dear over the past several volumes really hammers home the toll it's all taken on him。 Anger and vengeance are really all he has left。And despite that, he still manages to bring hope to some people。 From Puck, the elf who's trying his damnedest to bring a bit of joy and humanity back to Guts' life, to Jill, a tragic girl who honestly sees the dangers of Guts' life as a better alternative to her own, he somehow manages to draw people to him。 Whether he wants to or not。 And it's these side characters that keep the story grounded (even if Puck is kind of annoying sometimes); they're the reminder that maybe, just maybe, Guts is doing some good in the world, as he walks his gore-streaked path of vengeance。While there continues to be a lot to love in Berserk, the gloves are entirely off at this point。 Horrible people do things that are just as bad--if not worse--than what the demons do。 There's rape。 There's dismemberment。 There's the butchering of innocents。 Berserk has always been graphic, but Miura really doesn't hold back in depicting any of this, anymore。 Just a heads-up, if you don't feel like you can handle certain sensitive subjects, because chances are, they're going to show up right in your face by this point。 But if you can stomach it all, Berserk continues to be a horrifying, wonderful example of how good dark fantasy can be。 。。。more

Griffith did nothing wrong。 Except raping Casca。 Maybe he loved Guts and want to exact revenge?

Guts is so strong。 The will to keep living after everything that happens to his squad and Casca。 No wonder he changed after all of this。

In this volume I get that Berserk is about feelings that are too big to fit in a human body。 The characters who become demons feel something hugely miserable and loathsome。 But becoming a monster does not solve their problems; it just ends up expressing those same problems in a heightened form。 Heightened, like in a fairy tale! Tolkien wrote that good fairy tales, and real fairies, were terrifying。 Maybe Berserk is about real fairies。In Berserk, every feeling, love and longing as surely as fury In this volume I get that Berserk is about feelings that are too big to fit in a human body。 The characters who become demons feel something hugely miserable and loathsome。 But becoming a monster does not solve their problems; it just ends up expressing those same problems in a heightened form。 Heightened, like in a fairy tale! Tolkien wrote that good fairy tales, and real fairies, were terrifying。 Maybe Berserk is about real fairies。In Berserk, every feeling, love and longing as surely as fury and despair, is expressed through monstrous violence。 Violence is the language of emotional expression。 One word in Guts' language would kill a man; he can only unburden himself to an immortal。 This volume leans into the idea that Guts is not so different from the demons he hunts。 What is the similarity? Maybe this: a world without monsters would be too small to contain the stuff in their hearts。 。。。more

Volume 13 - 5/5This is my 4th time reading Berserk and this volume still makes me feel like I need to see a therapist。 The sheer amount of violence, horror, suffering, despair and helplessness captures the unmatchable trauma that the two main protagonists are put through。 Griffith’s betrayal remains the single most shocking thing I’ve ever witnessed in fantasy fiction and I can still feel the sting of it to this day, even after having originally experienced the eclipse sequence nearly a decade a Volume 13 - 5/5This is my 4th time reading Berserk and this volume still makes me feel like I need to see a therapist。 The sheer amount of violence, horror, suffering, despair and helplessness captures the unmatchable trauma that the two main protagonists are put through。 Griffith’s betrayal remains the single most shocking thing I’ve ever witnessed in fantasy fiction and I can still feel the sting of it to this day, even after having originally experienced the eclipse sequence nearly a decade ago。This volume tears apart my heart and soul and leaves me feeling broken, it’s like we’re experiencing the horrifying world of Berserk from Guts’s point of view in grotesquely intimate detail。 The eclipse will be burned into my memory forever, much like it was burned into Guts’s eye before being brutally gouged out。•••Volume 14 - 5/5Ah, the end of the Golden Age and the beginning of the Age of Darkness, this is where the horror elements of Berserk are dialed up to the absolute extreme。 You thought the story was gruesome and horrifying before? You haven't seen anything yet。 The Lost Children arc is not only arguably the most gruesome of them all, but it also completely wrecks your emotions as well。 The relationship between Guts and Jill shows us that Guts is still in touch with his human side after the atrocities of the Black Swordsman arc may have convinced us otherwise。 It solidifies his bond with his unlikely companion Puck, explores the lasting effects of trauma inflicted on him by the Eclipse and by Casca's heartbreaking condition and there's a rollercoaster of action, horror and small glimpses of hope in a sea of darkness。 I've always loved how Jill and Puck brought Guts's humanity back to the surface after being stuck in such a devastating and harmful state for so long。•••Volume 15 - 5/5The story isn’t quite as strong as the last few volumes but seeing Guts in action against grotesque insect demons and evil elf children was a sight to behold。 The imagery in the volume made my stomach turn and Jill is a very sympathetic characters。 This volume humanizes the act of becoming an apostle which adds a layer of emotional depth to their depraved existence。***My Social MediaMy YouTube Channel: https://www。youtube。com/channel/UCPPs。。。My Instagram Account: https://www。instagram。com/michael_sor。。。My Wattpad Account: https://www。wattpad。com/user/Michael-。。。My Twitter Account: https://twitter。com/SorbelloHorrorMy Facebook Account: https://www。facebook。com/michael。sorb。。。 。。。more

So we come full circle and begin at the beginning again。 Kentaro Miura sensei has been building upon the formative years of Guts, The Black Swordsman after his introduction, in the early chapters, to his mission hunting the apostles。 And, we finally learn his motivation which, honestly, is about as perfunctory as a revenge story can get。 The rape of Casca chapters are hugely problematic (it’s a larger issue in seinen manga, generally, depicting victims as complicit)。 Getting Puck back into the So we come full circle and begin at the beginning again。 Kentaro Miura sensei has been building upon the formative years of Guts, The Black Swordsman after his introduction, in the early chapters, to his mission hunting the apostles。 And, we finally learn his motivation which, honestly, is about as perfunctory as a revenge story can get。 The rape of Casca chapters are hugely problematic (it’s a larger issue in seinen manga, generally, depicting victims as complicit)。 Getting Puck back into the story is a mixed blessing, while the fairy does lighten the mood, the humor is often bland, and there’s a tendency to break the fourth wall and the immersion。 The Guts versus the stag beetle and mantis, however, are some of my favorite panels in this volume。 More blood, tears, and Guts are to come。 As usual, the reprinted deluxe package is worth all of your dog-walking money。 。。。more

The last half of it was a bit lighter, but the first half was dark as f**k!! Lot of action, very grim but I say that in a good way, this is what Berserk is。 We didn't get much in term of overall evolution in the main plot with this volume, but it was nonetheless very entertaining to read。 And again, the quality of the illustrations with these deluxe edition is just insane!
